Road Trip

Going to be taking advantage of the school break and am heading out on a short road trip.....yippee! As always when I travel, I will have limited or no internet access, so I hope to see plenty o' good news to help celebrate when I check in with y'all next week! Wishing you all loads of smiles, laughter and good times in the meantime. Now if only the baby will cooperate in the car past the 2 hour mark....... LOL *grin*

Any tried and true techniques to keep the littlest one content in the car seat beyond the nap, music, toys & snacks?(which keeps him busy for O, bout 1 1/2 hours...lol) Please do share if something comes to mind. Consider me a collector of ideas, tips and sage Mama wisdom! Plus I just like what you all have to say!! :)

Wow! Sorry I've been MIA...I've missed so much. Your kiddos are the cutest things!!! Love their costumes. Thanks for sharing such great photos :) I've pretty much forgotten what it's like to travel with a baby, which is crazy because we used to travel all the time with Natalie. Maybe I blocked it out. If I think of anything I'll let you know. Hope you have a wonderful and safe vacation!!

Hugs,
Staci

DVD player - baby Einstein (if Lauren can stand it). Dahlia was a little older when we first went travelling. Eight hours on the road - she was 2 so it is a bit different but I couldn't believe how she stared at that thing. Because it was so close to her, she was just captivated.

Otherwise, you've named all the other tricks. Oh, here's one more. Pray! (lol)

Have a wonderful time! There's nothing like getting away for a few days and making some memories. Don't forget to take lots of pictures.

Hugs,
Wanda

We fly between Holland and the US *a lot*. Something that works with our little guy is this:

Fill a wallet with a zillion old business cards, trinkets, ribbons, cards, etc. and voila- he's happy. Stickers are good too. The last trip I took a lunchbox that is easy to open and filled it with a bunch of little things and tiny books, too :) Have fun! Then again there are times when nothing works...

Uhhhmmm....I'm really happy you posted this since we're going to Chicago on Saturday and I hadn't even thought of what to do en route! Oh my. So no suggestions right now, but I'll let you know if I come up with anything!

Have a great time!!!! I don't think we've ever been anywhere longer than an hour with a baby in the car, so unfortunately, no sage advice from me. not sure if Tyler is forward facing yet, but one of Alex's favorite things is for me to have one of the little stuffed animals we have in the car and to play a very vigorous peek-a-boo where the stuffed animal peeks around from various spots of the front seat and says Boo! very loudly. It only eats up about 10 mins before my back gets tired, but hey, every 10 mins count -- I'm afraid that's all I've got!

DVD player. Hannah watches HBO's Classical Baby in the car. Great music for all of us, and videos that she loves.

Have fun on your trip! Good idea about asking for advice on this topic, our family does not live near (closest 4.5 hrs) and we are on the road a lot. We have not ventured further than 30 minutes yet but may go home in a couple weeks. You will have to let me know if you found any other tricks to entertain!

Road Trip-always fun! My kiddos always liked to draw, scribble and color. We always had a notebook, scrap paper, coloring books, crayons, and colored pencils in the car. Actually I think there is a notebook still in the pocket with the pencil case...hmmm, I will check on that. An old deck of playing cards (didn't matter if they get bent)worked to play games with Lauren, and Tyler can hold his "hand" too. Matching games and numbers. Flash cards for Lauren and Tyler can cheer for her, and hold the cards. We picked some books and I read to them too.

Wow, it's been a loooong while since my kids were this little. Now it's Ip*ds, and texting on the phone, sometimes reading a book. Oh no, I sound old. :-)

I'm sure this is arriving too late before your travels, but maybe you can use them for the next road trip. Hope you are having a blast and can't wait to see some pictures of your cuties enjoying their down time just chillin !! :-)
